FWIW, those little hand held tire pressure testers are also all over the map on accuracy.  My tool boxes had several gauges in them, auction accumulations mostly.  Couple of years ago I went thru them all and found a few that were pretty close to the same pressure reading and consistent with my vehicle tire sensors.  I threw the others away.

I have a 5HP/80gallon Curtis here at work that is dedicated to my 5 CNC lathes.  When I first put it in service, it had been sitting unused for quite a while, and I found the unloader valve was trashed.  They helped steer me to the correct replacement part, and it was here the next day.

I have the exact opposite problem (but probably same root cause)  with my water well pressure switch.  Every once in a blue moon it will fail to cut the pump on when the pressure drops below it’s rated psi. All I have to do is cut the power, run a little emery cloth over the points, and then all is well for another long while.

PS:  Cut the power first!
