[AT] John Deere Projects UPDATES

Right now, I don't think I need a hand-crank flywheel, as far as I know
mine is intact - at least, there are no visible cracks in the 'outboard'
side. Thanks for the info, though!
Having seen the actual weight of the 720D/730D flywheel I wish my cousin
and I had gone ahead with building the pony cart using two flywheels and
the 1903 Cadillac axle...just the rotating parts would have weighed
almost 400 lbs, before we started to build a cart on top of it. You'd
need a good horse or mule just to pull it empty - it sure wouldn't have
been a goat cart!
Another 730D memory: in the course of overhauling one of ours, we had to
replace the main reduction gear on the 'clutch' end of the crank. It is
'interference fit' with about a -.003 clearance. We heated the
replacement gear in hot oil for over an hour to get it ready to go on.
The good news: no more problems with it for at least the next 25 years,
possibly longer.
