I must have got one of the good Briggs engines. Dad bought that portable
pump at a farm auction about 1986 and I've used it every year since to
fill my sprayer. That little 3 horse Briggs has never needed more than
three pulls to fire it up. It has the check ball in the pump to prevent
it from draining back and emptying. I think it will last me as long as I
want to farm. Think my brother put a set of points in it once for me.
Only complaint I have is that it is a heavy unit to carry around. I
always keep it covered with an old bath tub to protect it from rain
which probably helps.
