[AT] Critique of TSC was Antique tractors anyone?

I got one of their refurbished 220V, 80A wire welders a few years back to do general welding on various things around the house/garage. Paid $80 for it. It kept me from driving over to my brother’s house every time I needed something welded.

I don’t profess to be a top notch welder but it’s worked perfectly and I haven’t had a bit of trouble with it all this time, about 15 years. I’ve done some serious welding with it and the welds have held up great.

The only thing that I don’t buy from them for welding is their wire. It seems to create a lot of splatter and I didn’t like the penetration. I buy my wire at Tractor Supply and it works perfectly with the HFT welder with no splatter and good penetration.

Since then they’ve come out with a better (???) line of welders, but I can’t provide any comments on how much better.

I like Harbor Freight tools. Most of the spare set of tools in my cabin is from there. Some specialty tools in my main shop are from there also. Also a few tools I keep in my wife’s car are from there. I like there impacts, and plan to get the 1” one soon.
They have a new ICON brand that is supposed to be tool truck quality -my son just got one of these ratchets to carry in his pickup.
Have not tried there welders yet, but some look to be good.
Got a sliding mitre saw there for my son and he was not impressed with it.

Not swearing by anything, or defending them in everything. They do have some items that are not worth using more than once, but that’s usually all I need it for. You do get what you pay for in some instances. If I were buying for the purpose of going into business for myself, I would definitely go big name and high price.
