The Daimler Benz owned brand, Freightliner, is the best-selling Class 8 in the US.

Some of the Mercedes Benz engines used in them come from the Detroit Diesel plant in Redford (suburban Detroit), Michigan.

The second Daimler Benz north American brand is Western Star. They are a holdover from White Canada.

Early on they had a reputation for poor quality with nicknames like (White) “Road Commode” and “Freight Shaker”.
I have been to one of their plants when working as a chassis engineer for an oil field service company, and they were starting some quality programs. Today there quality has increased significantly. They still do not have a reputation of being the best, but they are getting better.
