John down here on the coast the silks in the corn turned dark before the
ears ever filled out fully.  Same drought condition you had.  The corn 
looked
great all spring after a late planting but then just as it needed water the 
most
it got dry for about 3 weeks or so.  Then when the damage was done it's 
rained almost
every day it seems.

Rain--thats the difference! Early August it stopped. Been raining heavy
all year then basically nothing.  My corn is way drier than I would like
for it to be, all the rain pushed maturity and now no rain has it really
dry in the field. I'm about 1/4 done cutting. Noticed a hydraulic line
under the cab leaking tonight so that will be tomorrow afternoons
adventure. I'm still loving those LED lighst I put on a couple years back!
