[AT] Torch kit

Just some ramblings from a decidedly uninformed and ill-suited source:

1 - Did you get lease prices? The upfront cost is why most people lease, truth be told. They’ll mention obsolescence, safety, liability, etc. But cash flow is the real reason.
2 – After you buy the used set you still have the “bottle exchange” thing others mentioned. So make sure the exchange is good and also make sure you aren’t buying leased bottles. The welding supply house would probably make the lease transfer painless but why risk the surprise?
3 - Be patient for the right set. At least around here most Victor sets are actually quite old. A 5 year old dirty set doesn’t look any different from a 20 year old dirty set.
4 - I sold mine. I heat with MAPP(works great for everything I need), weld with MiG and cut with a chop saw. But I don’t have to heat big pieces nor do I have to cut objects out of sheet steel.
5 - As an aside: I learned gas welding from an airplane fuselage welder. He had been doing it since WWII. For those that don’t know it, all airframe welds have to be inspected by the FAA. He could create welds that would make you cry they were so beautiful. Unfortunately the only thing I actually learned was that I could not and stopped trying. I did learn you have to be very practiced. It is not like riding a bike.

Hope these ramblings help,
