Before launching into the carb I'd suggest running the engine on three
cylinders, i.e., disconnecting one spark plug wire at a time -- to see
if the roughness is due to one cylinder. As an alternative, use a long
well-insulated screwdriver to short out one plug at a time while running
(assuming the spark plug connection is not covered by an insulated plug
wire terminus). If you find a single cylinder problem, it would
unlikely be related to the fuel system.
