[Farmall] "H" oil filter questions - photos below

This list will not allow you to attach pictures, so that does not help.  
If you have a webspace where you can put pictures it will allow you to 
post a link to them.  From your description, it sounds as if your filter 
is right.  Note there is a to[p and bottom.  The neck is slightly larger 
at the bottom than the bolt.  you will notice it when you put the bolt 
in.  Yes, if you are replacing the gasket, the old one needs ot be 
cleaned out good, if it appears there are still pieces in there, most 
lumber yards and hardware stores sell dental picks that are real handy 
for things like that.  The new filter normally stands right at the top 
of the groove, but when you tighten the bolt it presses the gasket down 
into the groove.
