Guessing the future is always error prone.

However I think Fiat wants first shot at the Chrysler dealer network
when Chrysler goes under. If they get this network (and as already
mentioned their cars meet US standards) they can count on overnight
getting greater than 5% of the US market. I don't know if FIAT has
trucks in their lineup, but if they do (or keep the dodge line) they
can do very well really quick.

Even if Chrysler somehow stays in business (which seems unlikely), an
outlet for their small cars is something Fiat would love. Building
their own dealer network from nothing would take years, getting their
cars into Chrysler is basically instant success. Fiat already has
some dealers, but they are expensive cars (Ferrari, is the best
known), and they are not stupid enough to try and sell cheap cars in
that network.

Many of you will recall something like the above happening on a
beloved tractor brand over the years.

Though who knows, perhaps Fiat knows how to manage a car company and
can bring Chrysler back. I'd give the right manager 35% stock for
nothing if I was sure they could turn around my failing company.
