Can't believe all the quick responses.

One thing I've noticed in the past is that there's not much clearance
between the trailer & the top of the bed (over the tail lights) when you
turn (obviously not an issue on a flat truck bed).  I have a trailer
spoken for about 500 miles away so don't need problems of it being too
far forward when I go pick up the trailer.  Maybe the best bet would be
to call the trailer manufacturer; hadn't thought of that till now.

   I just replaced the bed  on my truck and had to drill a hole for the 
ball. The B&W instructions place the center of the ball 48 3/8 inches 
from the back end of the bed. That places it 5 inches in front of the 
axle. My truck is an '01 Dodge, so not sure how close it is to the newer

body style.
