Gene they now make fittings that are held in place and sealed by O-rings
that slip over the outside of the pipe. And by compressing a small ring can
easily be disassembled.  When I Installed the instant hot water heater
needed to go from 3/4" polybutelene ?? To 1/2" copper the slip on fittings
filled the bill beautifully. These fittings do not reduce the inside
diameter of the connection.  Picked them up at Lowes.
