Jeff,

It seems to me that many of my fellow friends in the hobby, are also the one's involved in scouting...or were involved in scouting when their children were of the age. Anyway, I can fully understand the dividing loyalties, I have had to miss a few steam functions already this year for scouting events. As much as I love steam, and I think everyone that knows me knows this of me. But I have gotten so much out of scouting since my son Nicholas has joined. I have become deeply involved in our pack, serving as den leader and Pack Commissioner. My wife has also become involved, as she is our financial officer now. So, yes, it is a wonderful program and glad to hear that you are taking time out for your child to be involved...and more importantly, you are involved with him. I have been told, and truly believe it, that the child's involvement in scouting is a direct result of the enthusiasm of the parents. So my hat off to you Jeff for attending the outing!

Lawrence

Good job Lawrence, way to guilt Andy into it! Keep up
the good work! Note to self: email map-quest link to
Andy from someone that is traveling further than him
for any show he wants to snooker out
on.................. ;)

I usually don't compare anything to steam engines, but
I will say that I am glad that I did pass and attend
the Scout Mega Show here in my home town. This was
the first one I have ever attended and it was huge.
It was great to see all the activities these fine
young children were learning, I was even surprised
when I got out of the truck to smell coal smoke and
then later I found the source, one pack had a booth
set up teaching the kids about blacksmithing! They
had double headed nails and were letting the kids heat
them and then pound them into a small sword. The
double head looks just like a handle when flattened.
