Has the tractor been converted to 12 volts with an alternator? If done
improperly they can backfeed through the alternator.

Subject: [Farmall] F450 Switch question

I have a 450 that is confusing me.

When I try to shut it off, I turn the key to the off position, and nothing
happens. The
tractor continues to run, and the ammeter gauge never changes. I try to
jiggle the key
thinking that the switch is bad, but still nothing happens.

To kill it, I just choke it until it dies. Then I turn the key off, and the
ammeter returns
to the 'off' position like it should. I turn the key back on, and the
needle in the gauge
moves like it should.

Is the key switch bad or is something else wrong?

Thanks for any responses.
