[AJD] Power Lift Serial Number vs Tractor Serial Number????

 Up until about May 10, 1950, tractors equipped with Power Lift or Powr-Trol had the serial numbers of the hydraulic units recorded along with the serial number of the tractor. In fact, after Powr-Trol became available, the serial number of the hydraulic cylinder furnished with Powr-Trol was recorded. 
   
  So, one would think that if the tractor is equipped with a Power Lift or Powr-Trol, one could use the serial number of the hydraulic unit to identify the serial number of the tractor. That would be wrong, for a number of reasons. First of all, especially in the early days, there was a lot of mixing and matching done at the Branch House and dealer level.  Second, many of the styled tractors originally equipped with Power Lift have had a Powr-Trol unit installed later on, or perhaps one installed from another tractor. 
   
  I've probably spent more time in the Serial Number Registers than anyone, and trying to look up a Power Lift or Powr-Trol serial number, especially in the styled era, when most tractors were equipped with one or the other, would be like looking for a needle in a haystack, as the numbers were not even close to being sequential.
   
  I do know that Deere will NOT issue a replacement serial number tag based on a Power Lift or Powr-Trol serial number, for the reasons stated above.
