[AT] OT-JD, now sheep

Herb, you reminded me of the comment an Air Force buddy of mine made
years ago when we were serving together in France. He's a turkey
rancher -- sells the fertilized eggs for a hybrid turkey that we all
know and love to eat during the holidays. Typically he raises 100,000
birds every year and he sells many times as many eggs. He keeps a
couple dozen toms and "milks" them regularly to perform artificial
insemination on all the hens. Even though he has lots of automated
machinery for feeding and medication, it's still a labor-intensive
operation. He gave us example after example of how dumb turkeys are,
but he said the dumbest animal he ever met is any man who would go into
the business of being a turkey rancher! :-)

Cecil
Good to know that your fathers injuries were limited to a sore knee.
Do not know you opinion on sheep. Although Dad was very tolerant
toward
animals, I do remember his infrequent comments that sheep had to be the
dumbest of all animals. "When I was knee high to a grasshopper" we had
50
to 75 sheep for several years. Dad never regretted the decision of
discontinuing sheep ranching. Dad had several good reasons, the one I
remember was they were the only animal that would not always claim their

newborn.
Maybe some list member is better informed of the above saying; hope so,
because I do not know.
Herb
