With a little bit of calculation, you can figure out the operating
pressure of the system, Howard. Take the rated force (What is it? 31
tons?) and divide it by the area of the cylinder in square inches. If
that's a six-inch cylinder, then the pressure is around 2200 psi.

Hi Ivan,

The end that is leaking has an o-ring or similar seal in it, but I do
not know how to get it off (unscrew?), and if the parts are available
(MTD only shows a replacement cylinder, not a rebuild kit for it).

Pictures of the end of the cylinder are at:

We had to weld a new pipe fitting on the end of the cylinder (long
story), which is why it is leaking now (hoped that it would not, but
worth trying it....:o).

If I can not repair this cylinder, the Surplus Center is my first
choice. Just not sure if I can use a 2500 psi cylinder, or need a 3000
psi cylinder for the machine. No markings on the hyd pump to indicate
the mfg or model of the it to get the ratings from.

Thanks,
Howard
