use your assistance:
Should the counter shaft idler gear be able to turn independently of the
remainder of the gears on the counter shaft? I have installed the counter
shaft and the sliding gear shaft but no where in my reference materials do I find
that the double idler gear should turn independently of the other gears on
that shaft once the nut on the left side of the shaft is tightened.

Kenneth,
I hope you have gotten some good advice directly, and not via the list. But,
in case you hadn't, my initial reply is that yes, that the B 3607R idler gear
does run independent of the other gears on the shaft. Are you sure the
bearing has been pressed on far enough? Also, I don't know how much it would
affect what you are seeing, but there is a critical end play adjustment with spaces
on the right side. I have found the SM 2004 service manual for the styled
"B" tractors to be helpful for many of the Waterloo tractors. It has a lot more
detail than the later service manuals. If you are still stuck, and I can
help, let me know.
