Gene:

I don't recognize the name but I sure didn't know many people from Akron to
begin with and I have essentially been gone from that area since 1958. Good
friends are a treasure and I'm sure you miss him. I suspect only "good"
pilots survived very long! :-)

I flew in the AF ROTC program and then later wanted very much to get a
private pilots license but the responsibility of 4 children delayed it long
enough until the burning desire went away.

Now I'm too old. Having spent way too much of my working life on commercial
airplanes I tend to stay away from airplanes and airports altogether. Same
as motel rooms. My wife would like to travel more, I don't, except to hunt
for antique tractor parts. A different objective.

    Dean;
I had a good friend and fellow pilot from Akron, Ia. He was
a practicing doctor in Akron for many years. his name was
Leonard Brooks. Unfortunately he passed away 2 years ago. We
would always attend our July fly-in at Starbuck, Minnesota. He
was a fine gentleman and god pilot. I do miss seeing him there.

: Ron/Kathy:
:
: I agree, good to hear from the folks close to the old
farmstead. Keep it
: coming. Lemars is only 12 miles South of where I was born and
raised. Played
: Baseball and Fast Pitch softball in Akron many times. Akron
suffered from
: the same Malaise due to the Big Sioux as did those towns next
to the Floyd.
: When both flooded and dumped into Sioux City at the same time,
it was
: trouble right here in river city.
:
: We used to take a highway from our home place along the Big
Sioux River into
: North Sioux City (Prairie Creek Road?) to go to a place called
the Normandy
: Restaurant, an eat all you want kind of place. That was a very
rare and a
: big treat for us farmers. I have no idea if it is still there
or not.
