Had a look at a nice looking NH 847 round baler trade in today. Its in my
price range and doesn't look beat up like some. I'll have to see what shape
the chain is in and what it might cost to replace if necessary.

Ralph:
Down here, everyone runs from those chain type balers. Tehy tell me that if
you put up very much hay, you will replace those chains about every 2
years. In the past 3 years there have been about 8 of those balers at auction.
They bring from $500 to $1000.... I would recommend a Vermeer. They produce
the tightest bales. If you can afford the netwrap, your hay really is in
good shape. It looks like it was just baled when you unwrap it...I have had 5
round balers, and worked on a lot of them. A friend of mine let a Hesston 5800
rounder go for 250 at auction last summer. I almost choked him when he told
me, cause I could have saved it for parts... I would recommend against a
chain type baler..

You can really bale a lot greener and it makes great hay. Sometimes I get
mold, but I think a ot of it is within the first 6 inches of hay. It is from
the rain. Snow is really the worst thing on them.. That is why I would
recommend a netwrap system.. If you got the time, you coauld fabvricate a
netwrap device. I have got a few ideas for one that feeds in above the feeder.
John deere uses one at the back of the baler... really screwy...
