Small Peerless boilers did have brass plugs in the corners for clean outs but I believe they were larger than 1/2 inch. Why not bore out and re tap for a larger size plug. Easier than cutting the opening for a hand hole. I know Cattail has 2X3 plates available, they may have some smaller. Jack Hottel
