I have a 1942 Oliver 70, which my grandfather bought new, so I tend to watch
on ebay and YTmag and such a lot for parts. I have seen a lot of sets of
rear steel for $200. Be forewarned any engine work on this tractor will be
expensive(actually, most parts for this model are expensive!). Think $700
for a piston/sleeve kit. The grill peice will be easy to find, maybe
$20-$25 on Ebay. The 11-40 rear rims will be easy to find. In fact, I have
a set I'll GIVE you if you come pick them up. Tires are ungodly expensive,
but I believe Miller Tire in Wauseon Ohio has them. I went the cheaper
route and bought a set of factory hubs and stamped steel rims off a parts
tractor. I've got $200 in the original set of rims and hubs but then I
bought another set of wheels that had very very nice 13.6x38s on it for
$300. I did have to invest in some wheel weights with that combo but if
your not farming with it you'll get along fine. If you find a decent
fender, pay whatever the seller is asking, don't try to hagle or get a steal
just get it! If you've ever heard of Maibach tractor in Creston, Oh. I went
there and got some parts for my 70(they are a great resource for oliver
parts!!) and asked about fenders. The guys I was talking 2 were the people
who do all the disassembly of the parts tractors that come in. I was told
the one guy has been working there 7-8 years and has never seen a 70 come in
with decent fenders. I have actually toyed with the idea of making a set of
brackets to mount 77/88 fenders on it but never did it. Both fenders on my
tractor are a little rough.
I am sure others will give their opinion but that is mine. If you have any
questions feel free to drop me a line.
