[AT] Gasoline $

I'm hearing reports of $1 per litre here in Sask. this morning. Thats
approximately $4 per U.S. gallon. Scary when I see it in print. I get all
mine delivered to bulk tanks so don't notice the daily ups and downs of
prices. Just one big shock when the bill comes for filling up those big
tanks. Last one was over $2000.
The problem I have with cutting back on trips is that I have always
practised economy and tried to keep fuel consumption down. I can remember
when predictions of $1 per gallon fuel had us all scared back in the late
sixties. Even then my Dad used to try to restrict trips to town in the old
Merc because it could cost close to a couple of dollars worth of fuel every
time. Except for emergency repairs, most trips were planned to take care of
all the grocery shopping, mail , banking, etc in one operation.
I look back on fuel bills from those days, 25 cent a gallon for farm gas,
couple of cents less for diesel. We could probably have bought 4 gallons of
fuel for a bushel of wheat in those days.
Interesting contrast...........I sold some of last year's frozen feed wheat
yesterday. Bottom line price on the cheque was one dollar per bushel, just
enough to buy a litre of gas at the pumps this morning. Something is wrong
here.
