Well, I always worried about the kids getting on or near equipment out of
curiosity, without me seeing them. So, we had a few very slow and hopefully
boring tractor rides with no running equipment so maybe they could satisify
their questions. That was the way I learned, and things weren't as safe in
the 50's and 60's as they are now. I considered everything as safe as I
could be at the time, but if some accident would have happend, it would have
appeared careless in hind sight as well. But, I know that if I had been
forbidden to be around the equipment, it would have probably made it more
tempting. Maybe that is why Dad gave me a putty knive and a grease gun, I
could help by working on parked equipment. You also learn fractions when a
5/8 is to small and a 3/4 is too big.

People have been killed on hay rides. Just this week, a tree fell and
killed a boy at a father/son scout camp. A lot of kids drown in pools every
year. What becomes routine can become dangerous.
