[Ford-ferguson] Resistor & condensor 8N

My local parts guy said he thought the 12V coil has a resistor that only
brings it down to about 9V. That's why he recommended not bypassing the
inline resistor. But the last guy who worked on my 8N wasn't able to get it
going unless he bypassed the inline resistor (and it was new one).

Next question: do you have to take the distributor out to change the points?
Are there are tips or tricks to that?
