Well in this case people were allowed to open the jackets to inspect the 
boilers. And Yes they did rip a lot of them open. There was a 24 Minnie next 
to the 28 that had never had a canopy. And there were some Real BAD pitts 
next to the front axle mounting. But the 28 had a canopy that had only blown 
off in recent years and had Very Minimal pitting and must have been 
sheltered before Joe bought in the 40's or the 50's. Some engines have 
asbestos under the jackets but Minneapolis used soft wood (maybe basswood or 
cottonwood) and this stuff can really hold moisture before it rots away 
completely.
