Moosepower it must be. An old engine like that one will be rated in Hp, kW wouldn't have been understood.
According to this guys face it seems fun to drive. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBYJqYxOv_g

Yeah, as long as it isn't a BIG moose, unless it is a downhill pull all the way. 😁 Phil in TX

Being used as a moose puller, I think MP is more appropriate.  MP stands for Moose (it can) Pull.  Clearly this thing could only be 1MP.

I continue to assume either KW or PS, but not HP.  (Granted PS and HP are pretty darn close).  I'm at least mildly interested to know what units were customary when/where this machine was built.
Using SAE values:  if this engine of 24 cu in displacement was capable of 1 ft-lb torque per cu in (a good rule of thumb for modern engines) at 3000rpm it would be making 13.7 HP.  I'd bet torque is not up to modern standards and peaks well below 3000rpm, so 8.9PS (=8.8HP) seems the best guess; whereas 8.9KW is over 11HP.

Puissance means several things and can be used in several ways. One meaning is the height that a horse can jump. Several meanings are for “POWER” of various types, including mechanical. So I would assume that the 8.9 means 8.9 horsepower.

The language is French but the machine is Swiss.  I've never heard of "CV" but it turns out it's just another name for metric horsepower (PS).

Surely, being French the units would be cv -cheval-vapeur

I wondered the same thing, Phil.  "Puissance" is Power and the dataplate gives 8.9 with no units.  Now IF the correct units are KW, that converts to 11.9HP.  Another guess at units would be PS ("PferdStarke") aka "metric horsepower" amd 8.9PS converts to 8.8HP.
I think "regime" means "governor" at 3000rpm sounds right.
"Alesage" is bore, so maybe "course" is stroke.  The numbers in mm give displacement of 391cc which appears to match the stated "Cylindree" of 400; I guess this is a single-cylinder engine.

Interesting little machine. I cannot tell how much horsepower the dataplate tells us. Maybe 2? Phil in TX
