Applying both tape and sealing compound is becoming the new norm for any
pressurized system. I can see it from just using tape that can become
shredded as a fitting is threaded and tightened, especially if too much
tape is used. The application of the compound might be seen as applying a
lubricant that also seals. As long as there is no chemical reaction between
the two, there shouldn’t be an issue with using both.
