[AT] To oil or not to oil pre--filter

I do not oil the prefilters. Under certain conditions (fine high dust) the oil will cause the dust to cake on the surface and cut off airflow. High fine conditions, like running in the desert where the sand can be as fine as talc, was a major issue for the Abrams tank. We had to develop self cleaning filters to discharge the dust when the air intake pressure dropped at a certain value. Before that, the crew had to exit the tank and beat the filters against the side of the tank. These were rather easy to get to, but were sizable filters requiring two hand lift.

I was just wondering whether you guys oil your lawn mower prefilter or
not, I usually do but it does seem to clog up the paper filter. After
all it's in Kohlers  best interest to sell filters.

Thanks,
Mike M
