[AT] Curiosity killed the cat...hole in manifold ... Inspection Camera

Spencer: I could use such a camera device.  Could you weigh in with the information.  I have a JD 420 crawler engine that was rebuilt several years ago in Alabama; sat in my brother in law’s shop for a few years as he wanted to use the crawler, and was getting around to the project someday.  He passed away prematurely from pancreatic cancer  at 59.  The parts and pieces are now moved back home to my shop in Ohio.  My concern that the annoying mud daubers prevalent in Alabama built nests in the engine.  So before I start putting this thing back together, I want to look inside as much as I can to check on the status/cleanliness of the engine.  A camera would be a big help.

I have had the Harbor Freight #67979 for several years with mixed results. 

It has been more useful around the house than dealing with engine issues.

My two issues with this unit are:

No way to save image

It won't fit through a spark plug hole

 

Spencer has a borescope that will fit through a spark plug hole and save images.  

It might be worth the price difference to get those features.

When I get the manifold off of the head, I’m going to first try to verify that there isn’t a blown gasket between the exhaust and intake side of the manifold. That may be difficult due to damage to the gasket when separating the two.   However, assuming it is a hole in the manifold I sure would like to see and know where it is.  Just out of pure curiosity. But have any ATIS members had experience with this particular inspection camera?  And what has been your experience with inspection camera’s in general?  Would hate to buy a useless toy.
