[AT] Right to repair

When I was looking at a small compact tractor, I had a choice between a
Kubota 39 horse or a Mahindra 40 horse. I drove both and liked them
both, Kubota makes a nice machine. When we sat down to talk numbers, the
salesman, (same dealership franchise) said if I liked them both he would
opt for the year older Mahindra with a Tier III engine vs the Kubota
that had a Tier IV engine. Mind you this was at least 5 years ago, but
he said that the Tier IV engines where coming in with problems his techs
did not have the knowledge or equipment to fix. If they are not run
hard, they go into regen  mode and you have to put them at full throttle
and let it run that way for 30 minutes to clean the filter. Not sure if
this is still the case, I suspect not, but at the time it made my choice
easy. My Tier III is all mechanical, which means that if I can't fix it
any diesel mechanic would have no problem with it, no electronics or
computer for the engine.
