I was once read aloud a letter from one of my grandfather's miner buddies in New Mexico. Grandpop had come back to the Midwest in 1907 after a crash in the silver price. The male/female ratio in the mining camps was not in his favor.

When the Villistas attacked Columbus, New Mexico, the gringo miners had felt the need to purchase heat. People otherwise had no need to open carry.

A one time co-worker who described himself as a Mexican Nationalist claimed the raid was in retaliation for a lot of bad ammunition sold to the Villistas by Columbus merchants.

The result was the establishment of firearm and ammunition manufacturing in Mexico.
