I remember when the plugs were made of brass and did not rust through.
Back before I used antifreeze I had several engines that developed leaks in the freeze/expansion plugs due to corrosion. I had heard that brass plugs were available but never tried any. Once I started using antifreeze and distilled water I never had any more trouble with corrosion.
