Bo,

Good luck getting ready. Hope you have minimal damage.
Yesterday I helped my son get ready and move things. He is 3 blocks from Galveston bay, and expecting some storm surge.

I hope all of you enjoy Portland as much as I did in 2006 , which was about a year after Hurricane Rita that we in S. Louisiana went thru . I have always considered Portland as the 4th wonder of the world as I have traveled around the world 3 times and visited many countries . So , today as I write this short message to ALL my friends from around the world , we ( my wife & I ) are in the process of leaving our home here in Sulphur , Louisiana and have no idea as to what we will be facing on friday when we return ( if they let us return ) .Its a weird feeling to have worked all your life ( 81 years ) for the few material things that we have , only to have it taken from you in a blink of an eye .
So , stay safe , enjoy the fourth wonder of the World and if you can find it in your heart , Say a little prayer for all of us that are getting ready TO face a major hurricane with its eye coming in land about 25 miles from our home .

When I was a den leader in the Boy Scouts, they had a tradition of letting the Scouts who were earning their Eagle Badge build and light the last night’s bonfire at the Scout camp. We had all the scouts gathered at the ceremony arena and everybody was excited about doing their skits, dances, etc. as part of the ceremony. The Scouts earning their Eagle Badge decided that they were going to build the biggest fire ever and made a huge pile of wood. What the people running the camp didn’t know was that the guys had also figured out how to make some napalm that they sprinkled all over the wood . When they threw the torch into the big pile of wood there was a tremendous roar, and everybody had to run out of the arena and wait for the flames to die down. The heat from the fire was really something. Nobody was hurt, but it was decided later that the camp councilors would build the bonfires from then on.

You're supposed to be using distillate or diesel fuel out of a tractor
to start the camp fire! I thought everybody knew that.
