Cecil,
That brings back memories. The Super C was my grandfather's tractor and then my father's. I got it when my dad passed away 8 years ago. When we were using that to cultivate back in the 80's my dad always said the pilot bearing needs to be replaced to fix the issue. I had totally forgotten that. He wasn't the most mechanically inclined guy so I'm not sure if someone told him that or what.

My first thought would be the pilot bearing is dragging on the transmission mainshaft.  I don't know if a Super C has a ball bearing pilot bearing or a sleeve bearing.  I believe it is a bronze bushing.  If the bushing is worn it can cause dragging also.

I'll do a tractor question for you Spencer. I have a Super C that has a long-running issue that seems to have gotten worse. The problem is that it's hard to get in gear. I push the clutch pedal in and wait for ever and it wants to grind going into any gear regardless of what RPM the engine is at. Where do I start on that one? I'm an average guy in engine knowledge but have zero knowledge of clutches and transmissions.

The Supreme Court was vindicated in this as IQ, as a measure of one’s innate intelligence, as been roundly debunked.  The science was slimmer at that time but already pretty clear.  The evidence has piled up since.

But that is immaterial to the purpose of my post: What I want to know is has anyone done anything with old tractors recently?  I’m going to get out the old Ford and do final mowing for the fall.  Been real dry but weeds have done alright and I need to knock down the weed heads before they seed.
