And don't forget heat... :-) Glad to hear about the Charlie Hill contact.
We here (Central Indiana) are seeing some heat relief today. It has been a
remarkable weather year. Many of the thousands and thousands of acres that
were left unplanted from the massive spring rains are now being planted in
very dry dusty ground. I am assuming to wheat but some was planted in
August so I am guessing that it was some kind of cover crop. I saw a field
or two in oats. Maybe the farmer was hoping for enough growth to bale them
late for hay.
You think of a wet spring as fast grass but the pastures actually recovered
from the winter pretty slowly but the damn yard sure grew fast... The yards
are looking pretty dead right now but we may get some rain Sunday (or not).
.
About that heat. I have talked for years about my farm shop (In a converted
36'x50' old barn) being basically impossible to heat but usually pretty
reasonably comfortable in hot weather. It has 3 good sized trees on the
east side which shade the entire east half of the roof (north south gable
ends) until about noon and 2 large tall evergreen trees on the west side
that shade much of that side of the building most of the afternoon. This
year even with adding two more blowers from old furnaces to the 2 large
fans I already had in there it has stayed remarkably oppressive in there.
Most of the summer and even this week I have kept saying "Surely at some
point it is going to stop being in the 90's almost every day..." Some days
it makes me think of that hot air cooker we use. It can be wide open (One
overhead door on the west and another on the east and a wide walk door on
the north) with all blowers going and a natural breeze and it has still
stayed stifling hot... I guess age could also be a factor (shrug). We
usually only have maybe 10 to 16 days in the 90's most years here but this
year I think we have already had maybe 400 days above 90... :-)
Waiting for next month when I can complain about the cold. :-)
