A few years back I had a coworker who had been pushed out of the military at about 15 years. He had not previously been involved with maintenance. He took a maintenance related course from MIAT for which he took out a student loan. He got hired as a controls technician at a Detroit manufacturing facility which is a higher technical level than electrical maintenance. He followed the maintenance people around trying to learn from them. His skill lack eventually caught up with him. The student loan debt would not have been removed when he went to bankruptcy court.

That is where the 99% acceptance rate comes in. Not all of the Mickey Duck programs are at the university.

[Jim Becker]  I have a BA in Mathematics and I did OK.  At least half the things I worked with didn't exist when I was in school.  A good 4 year degree helps you be flexible and be prepared for a lifetime of learning.

The half-life of a troubleshooting procedure is maybe 5 years.  If you don't start using tech school training almost immediately, you'll find the only part still applicable is lefty loosey, righty tighty.
