In my experience both types are good coolants. My only caution is do not mix the two! They are not compatible. You do not have to do anything special to change types other than drain and refill although flushing with plain water sure won't hurt and isn't a bad idea. Amsoil also makes a propylene glycol antifreeze. Its heat transfer abilities are better than ethylene.
Good in high temps but not so great in the winter because at idle the heater output at idle was nearly non existent.
