I visited a tractor dealership in 1990 that was mostly selling used tractors. The owner and primary salesman explained that it had been a John Deere dealership until around 1983 when a recession dropped sales. JD had pulled the franchise and the old owners sold the franchise less dealership to the fellow I met at a discounted price.

The new owner eventually got a franchise to sell Hesston tractors. He had one in the showroom.

I ran into him in the late nineties and he explained that when Agco bought Hesston, they quit importing Hesston labelled Fiats to sell. Agco offered the dealer a Massey Ferguson franchise which he had taken.

He said that in the year I spoke with him, only one over 100 HP tractor (of all brands) had been purchased in the whole partially suburban county.
