I participated in a vocational interest survey in my first university semester. I was still 17. This survey compares your answers with answers of people in various fields. I matched carpenter, computer programmer, and military officer. I did not match engineer. I was right to give up Business Administration as a major. The Sputnik induced wave of community college start-ups was still going on and I did not know that was a better place for me.
[Spencer] <snip> Several weeks of career counseling, personality and aptitude tests, and visitation with the deans and assistant deans of many departments led me to computer programming(which is what I still do to this day). I had never even considered it prior to this. <snip>
