Been there many times and being from the same general area(hour and a half away) I can tell you that this is a nice place to live. Close to some of the best beaches in the country, and some of the best mountains in the country. Good place for outdoor activities. The NASCAR race at Martinsville is less than an hour away if you like NASCAR. The weather is moderate yet you have all four seasons. Low to moderate crime, clean environment and good infrastructure - all with low taxes; at least compared to elsewhere.

Danville shares similar problems with other towns of its same size insofar substance abuse, crime, development, etc are concerned.

I would say the one issue you may want to research further is it is downstream from one of the biggest coal ash spills in this country's history. The ash spilled into the Dan river upstream here in North Carolina in 2014. Danville sits right on that river and is the river the city gets its drinking water from. As I understand it Danville was far enough off away to be relatively unaffected by that spill but I would still look at it much closer. Google "duke power Dan river coal ash spill".

John hall probably knows the area better than I do.

I have found that digging into the Twitter account of cities/companies is always a good way to get a quick birds eye view (excuse the pun) of local goings-on: @cityofdanville

Good luck!

Usually they are just calls that don't go anywhere but this job has progressed to the point where they want me to come down for a face to face interview. I have not been to Danville VA before but spent a lot of time in the greater Charlotte area. My question is how is the area in general? The closest I have been to this area was Mebane, NC which was a very nice town and had a good BBQ joint. Any info will be greatly appreciated.
