[AT] Off Topic not intended to be political

Where I went to high school probably 80 % of the kids were farm kids and
almost all of us went on to do something else, me included but not by
choice.
Of my friends that managed to stay on the farm and survived the first few
years,
all are doing pretty well and at least 2 are multi-millionaires. One of
them grew
up as a tenant (share cropper) farmers son. He owns well over 1000 acres of
land
in an area where the average farm is 40 to 100 acres. The other one retired
at 55 or so.
He did a like kind exchange of his hog operation for a bunch of apartments
and leased out
his row crop land. He has a nice home back at the farm that he doesn't live
in, a condo at
the beach in a high rise complex on the water with a boat slip that keeps
his 46 foot Buddy
Davis built sports fishing boat. Spends his winters in Florida playing
golf.

I'm still trying to beat out a living.

Charlie

Nothing political about it. Just common sense.

I am not a farmer not because of the hardships of the job and nature but
because I could not abide the meddling Government trying to tell you how to
do things each step of the way.
I farmed on my own two years and decided that was not what I wanted to do.
I remember seeing my uncle on his front porch loosing patience and telling
the 20+ year old Government bureaucrat that he was going in the house to get
his rifle and he better be off his *&&^ place when he gets out. He was all
of 7 ft tall bad tempered by that time and meant every word.
The guy was out of range before my uncle reached the front porch. I thought
about it long and hard and enrolled in engineering school the next year.
Some times I regret it but then I think back to that day and get over it.
