I have several Oxygen, acetylene, and propane tanks. The Oxygen and acetylene have a code on them that will tell the supplier if the tank is leased or customer owned. I have tanks that I have no receipt for put they exchange them no questions asked. I did have to pay for a test on one tank in about 50 years of exchanges. I have used propane for welding light metal and for cutting heavy stuff. I use the same hose and regulator. I like propane for some work. I think the flame is cleaner but that is subject somewhat to how you adjust the flame. The cutting tips for propane are different than acetylene. I use Airco brand torch.

I suppose I'm lucky to live in a place that has a locally-owned welding and steel supply that has been in the same family since dirt was new.
I went to school with one of the (3rd generation) owners and have had a great relationship with them for years. I even worked
there part-time for a while during high school.
Dad bought a small Victor set when I was a kid and took out a 20 year bottle lease. When that lease expired I renewed it. The torch set
has been quite reliable. The O2 regulator got dinged in the shop 10 or so years back and I had to replace it, then a month or so ago the
acetylene regulator sprung a leak and had to get a new set of guts installed. Other than that the only thing that I've had to do is replace
the occasional cutting tip.

I never lose the purchase of original bottles even though there is a serial # on each bottle , they don`t go by that , just the owners name .So , when I purchased the bottles , they are purchased by size only and charged according thru the years and truth be known , I would NEVER see the first bottles I picked up . That is why it is important to keep the original sales ticket . The company I started out with years ago has changed hands three times and I have NEVER been ask to produce a copy of my original sales ticket . See Greg Hass`s response below if I am confusing you .
