[AT] Torch kit

I bought a Victor set 21 years ago, never any trouble. We've got the
identical set where I work, its been trouble free as well. I believe those
sets were called a "journeyman" set. At work we occasionally heat something
for bending or brazing, most of what we do is for heat treating small parts.
Here on the farm I'm normally heating stuck bolts. Since I bought a chop saw
I don't cut very much iron for projects any more. Every blue moon I use the
rose bud to heat big items, such as castings that need welding, most of the
time I use the cutting head for everything. I lease my tanks, I never wanted
the liability of owning them, we do the same at work.

Regarding brand, There are some things I am going to stick by an old
respected name. We had some off-brand 35 years ago, got rid of it for a
Craftsman--both were absolute junk. Don't know about the quality of current
model Victors, but If I had to buy one today, that’s what I would go get.

Subject: [AT] Torch kit

OK guys, I've had the need too many times now that I need to move from
my MAPP gas torch up to an oxygen/acetylene torch rig. From doing some
looking it appears that Victor is or was the main brand that is the most
copied. What would you guys look for when buying a new torch kit? Do you
rent or buy the tanks? I see a set at Horror Freight that looks like a
Victor clone, but I don't want to buy junk, as I've seen these things
last forever. I also took a look at the Hobart brand carried by my local
Tractor Supply. I know they make pretty good welders. Any advice is
greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Mike M
