These stories bring to light the difference in age between me and some of you guys. In my teenage years in the 1970s especially; even a little bit in my early 20s, I was occasionally hired in razing crews. We were the ones that tore down the barns on the old family farms that were no longer big enough to be profitable and salvaged the wood. I must have torn down several barns. Some were razed for development, some seem to have been razed for no reason whatsoever. Some were an obstacle to making a field bigger for the bigger equipment.

A small part of my love for old equipment comes from seeing the old tractors and implements that had been pulled out of the barn to make way for us. They would be sitting in the rain, in the field, waiting for the scrap man.

I missed those good times in these stories by maybe just a decade or two. But believe me, I did understand even at that young age that we were throwing the baby out with the bathwater in some respects. That probably is part of the reason why I started ATIS.

Rambling mode off....

Spencer
