I was posting some things about memories on Facebook (a love / hate site at
best) and thought I would share this memory of Portland here as well. I
know a number of you will recall it.
It's a copy & paste so I hope it formats right.
------------------------------------

The older you get the more important your memories become to you and often
totally unrelated things trigger remembering things.
This morning I was remembering years of sitting around the campfire until
the wee hours with the same group of friends each year for a number of
years. Two of those good friends, now both deceased, were H.L. Staples of
Oklahoma and George Willer from near the shores of Lake Erie. We were in
daily email contact for years.
H.L. didn't drink at all at home while George, of heavy German ancestry,
was a regular Olympic level consumer of beer. Around the campfire late at
night H.L. would try to keep up with George. About half way through the
evening H.L. would start repeating to George, "George, your'e going to have
to slow down. Your'e starting to look fuzzy!!".

A very simple line really but one that triggers a lot of memories of about
a dozen good friends around a fire.
Kind of makes me want to go build a fire...

:-)
