Wow, that is a different take on the issues between Ford and Navistar than what I have heard before.
I had heard that the 6.0 engine was fine until Ford added all their stuff to it. Navistar wouldn't
take responsibility for the engine that Ford had changed. Hence the law suits.

Navistar didn't have a problem it was Ford dictating what they would pay and didn't want to pay
navistar for the needed improvements. That's why the lawsuit between ford and navistar. Ford cheapened
them up to the point of failure and wanted navistar to pay for their engineering mistakes.

to reinvent the wheel. Ford's 7.3 was arguably one of the best engines 
that Navistar produced. The same goes for the  original Cummins diesel 
in Dodge trucks. Why not just keep improving those engines. Find the 
weak points, and improve them. Constantly coming out with under tested 
new engines is a causing them a lot of grief and  unhappy customers.
