[AT] Need help troubleshooting engine/compressor

I started to rebuild the sullair carb this morning. Carb kit was the
wrong one of course. Could not tell until I got it open so was not
returnable... Another $40 down the drain.. I thought I would use the
needle & seat and make a gasket. When trying to install one of the main
jets, it had a spring loaded metering rod in it. Spring hung on the
threads of the housing and then went "ping", a very very bad sound. I
heard it when it hit the hitch of the compressor. Trying to get that one
together is out of the question now. I looked up a carb that was used
on the 6cyl and smaller Ford engines. Oreilly parts had it at the
warehouse and I could get it in 2 hours for only $249 It had a similar
linkage and I could always use the main jet from the old one if I needed
to cut down the gas consumption. Finally about 8pm this evening I had
the new one installed and only needed to build an adapter for the air
cleaner connection......

Tried to start it and it was just the same as it was 4 days and $400
ago............. Maybe tomorrow I will remove the compressor and try
to start the engine and just let it run for a couple of hours.........

There are 2 complete motors running in Tulsa with the computer
connections for $650 for both... They sound really good, I should have
made the trip today.... It will still take me a week to R&R one of these.

Just another day in paradise!!
