Unless I'm misinterpreting what you're saying, which is ALWAYS a
possibility!  ;-) ... there's a ton of headlamps on the market these days,
and plenty of them are of a design that really doesn't stick up enough to
be concerned about hitting things.  Just take a look across this page of
images of headlamps:
