John,  one other thing you might want to look at.  Morse is the king in 
control cables and MOST cables wind up
being a Morse manufacture or design no matter who makes it.  Take that cable 
(if you have it off) by an industrial
supply house and see if they can match the ends up with something that works 
for a LOT less money.  You might
want to search online for Morse cables.  Teleflex is another brand.

If the Diesel does not work nothing will. You might have more luck if
you can use Gravity and time instead of air pressure.
